Consiguido que funcione el dbus finalmente (y así evitamos el error del HAL y funciona el network-manager) Resulta que estabamos siendo afectados por *este bug>http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:dQ_WhEklUtEJ:https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25931+network-admin+%22/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket%22+8.04&cd=2&hl=es&ct=clnk&gl=es&ie=UTF-8*, y eso era por no arrancar el dbus correctamente. En *este otro bug>http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:CpC-MNXnJmYJ:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/%2Bsource/gnome-system-tools/%2Bbug/112102+network-admin+%22/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket%22+8.04&cd=1&hl=es&ct=clnk&gl=es&ie=UTF-8* dan la solución para 9.04 (pero me ha funcionado para 8.04):
# Se edita el /etc/rc.local y se pone ahí un "monproble wl"
# Se hace el siguiente enlace sombólico: <tt># cd /etc/init.d/rc2.d # ln -s ../init.d/dbus S12dbus # reboot</tt>

Y con eso ya funciona el dbusm no sale el error del "Failed to initalize HAL" y se puede configurar el wireless.
